What Is a COA — and Why VERDANT Publishes One

If you have spent any time looking at cannabinoid products, you have probably seen four letters repeated again and again: COA. It stands for Certificate of Analysis — and it is the single most useful document a brand can show you.

At VERDANT, every batch is tested by an independent, third-party laboratory, and we treat that report as part of the product itself. Here is what it is, and why it matters.

What a COA actually tells you

A Certificate of Analysis is a lab report on a specific batch of product. A good one answers two simple questions:

  • What is in it? The cannabinoid profile — which compounds are present, and at what concentration.
  • What is not in it? Screens for the things you do not want: heavy metals, residual solvents, and other contaminants.

In other words, a COA is not a marketing claim. It is a measurement. A brand can say anything on a label; a COA is a third party putting a number next to it.

How to read one

You do not need to be a chemist. When you open a COA, look for:

  1. A batch or lot number that matches the product in your hand. A report for a different batch tells you nothing about your bottle.
  2. The testing laboratory's name — it should be an independent lab, not the brand itself.
  3. The date of the test.
  4. The cannabinoid table — the compounds and their measured concentrations.
  5. The contaminant screens — ideally marked as passed, or below the detection limit.

If a brand cannot produce a batch-matched COA from an independent lab, that absence is itself an answer.

Why we publish ours

A COA proves quality and composition — what is in the bottle and that it is clean. It is the clearest way we know to earn trust without asking you to simply take our word for it.

We want to be precise about one thing, though: a COA is not a legal or medical document. It tells you what a product contains; it does not make claims about what it will do for you, and it is not a substitute for your own judgement or professional advice. Our products are intended for adults 20 and over only.

That is the whole idea behind VERDANT — quiet, deliberate, and transparent. A clean report is not a marketing flourish. It is the baseline.
