Receiving Your Order While Traveling in Japan
If you are visiting Japan, you do not need a permanent address to receive an order. You have two reliable options while you travel: have it delivered to your hotel, or have it held for pickup at a post office (kyoku-dome, Japan's version of poste restante). This guide walks through both.
A quick note first: all VERDANT orders ship within Japan by LetterPack Light, a flat ¥430 nationwide, and we dispatch every day once your order is confirmed. Delivery is usually one to two days; weekends can add a day.
Option 1 — Deliver to your hotel
The simplest choice. Most hotels in Japan will hold a small package for an arriving or checked-in guest.
How to do it
- Ask the hotel first. A quick message — "Can you hold a small package for my stay?" — avoids surprises. Most say yes; some require advance notice.
- Use this address format when you place your order:
- Hotel postal code and address
気付 [Hotel Name](kizuke means "care of")[Your Name] 様- Your check-in and check-out dates
- Time it for after check-in. Order so the package arrives during your stay, not before. If in doubt, order on your first or second day in Japan.
That is it. When it arrives, the front desk holds it until you collect it.
Option 2 — Hold at a post office (kyoku-dome / poste restante)
No hotel, or moving around a lot? You can send the package to any post office and collect it yourself with your passport. This is Japan's poste restante service, called 局留め (kyoku-dome).
How to do it
- Pick a convenient post office — ideally a larger, central branch near where you will be. Note its postal code and name.
- Address the order like this:
〒[post office postal code][Post Office Name] 郵便局 局留め(kyoku-dome)- Your name, exactly as it appears on your passport — Roman letters are fine
- A phone number is helpful, too
- The name is what matters — not the address. At pickup, staff match the name on the package against your ID, so it must be exactly the same, with no nicknames. What they do not check is your home address, so an overseas address is no problem at all — you do not need a Japanese address to use this service.
- Pick it up in person with your passport. Staff will retrieve the package for you.
- Collect within about 10 days. Post offices hold kyoku-dome items for roughly ten days before sending them back.
Tip: opening hours vary by branch — larger central post offices tend to have longer hours, sometimes including weekends.
Timing your order
- We ship daily after your order and payment are confirmed.
- LetterPack Light is typically 1–2 days in transit; weekends may add a day.
- Traveling on a tight schedule? Order early in your trip and choose whichever pickup point you will reach with a day or two to spare.
A couple of things to remember
- VERDANT products are for adults 20 and over only.
